PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS UPHOLDS ECTT DECISION ON 2017 AS YEAR OF TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

European Council on Tourism and Trade (ECTT) had announced 2017 as the Year of SUSTAINABLE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT.

The decision of World Tourism Institute-ECTT comes in the following of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly resolution proclaiming 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.

United Nations had recognized “the importance of international tourism, and particularly of the designation of an international year of sustainable tourism for development, in fostering better understanding among people’s everywhere, in leading to a greater awareness of the rich heritage of various civilizations and in bringing about a better appreciation of the inherent values of different cultures, thereby contributing to the strengthening of peace in the world”.

President Professor Dr. Anton Caragea declared on the public ceremony marking the signing of the Executive Order on 2017 as the Year of SUSTAINABLE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT “Tourism had become now one of the most important world tool for economic development, in combating economic crisis and supporting the fight against un-employment and poverty world-wide.

Under the European Council on Tourism and Trade, as the flag-ship of international tourism I`am sure that 2017 will mark a year of raising awareness of the significance of tourism in the fields of economy, culture and environmental protection ” emphasized Professor Dr. Anton Caragea, ECTT President.

 “We are supported in our drive for tourism by European Tourism Academy as leading international academic and research institution and specially The Parliamentary Assembly for Sustainable Development  Goals gathering world parliaments, Governments, other international and regional organizations and all other relevant stakeholders”, this is unprecedented, noted in his allocution President Dr. Anton Caragea.

The decision to adopt 2017 as the Year of SUSTAINABLE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT comes in the center of The Parliamentary Assembly for Sustainable Development  Goals activity marking an important moment as the international community embraces the new Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
